Youth creative writing, storytelling & Hip-Hop workshops ✶
You’re Write is a relaxed, free, fortnightly hip-hop and creative writing workshop held at the Youth Arts & Recreation Centre in Hobart, Tasmania for young people aged 12–25.
Whether you’ve never written before, already have some experience, or you’re simply curious to give it a go, this is a space for you.
Using hip-hop as a broad and welcoming creative outlet, sessions are led by Kiz — a local hip-hop artist, youth worker and business owner who has spent years creating music, running events and building creative platforms for young people across Tasmania. He’s passionate about helping the next generation find their voice and back themselves creatively. Sessions will also feature guest artists from across Tasmania and Australia.
Workshops focus on storytelling, songwriting, recording and performance, while creating a safe and supportive environment where participants can build confidence, explore identity and express lived experience. Along the way, participants are encouraged to connect with others, grow creatively, and step into leadership or mentoring opportunities over time.
You have the right to tell your story.
You’re Write is here to help you do it.

❋
Song writing
Develop your song writing skills through lyric writing, song structure, delivery, and breath control. You will explore ways to express ideas creatively while learning practical techniques to strengthen their writing and vocal performance.
✿
Networking
Understand how to build genuine creative connections with other artists and peers. Participants will learn the importance of collaboration, community, and how networking can help open opportunities within the music and arts industry.
✦
Performance
Build confidence performing in front of others while developing stage presence and audience connection. This session focuses on how to engage a crowd, manage nerves, and bring energy and authenticity to live performances.
𖦹
Mentorship
Receive guidance on possible pathways within music, songwriting, and the broader arts space. This includes sharing knowledge, experiences, and practical advice to help participants navigate their creative journey.
You’re Write runs on a first in, best dressed basis, meaning spots go to the people who sign up first. As each session is facilitated by two workshop leaders, numbers are kept limited so everyone gets the opportunity to be involved and get the most out of the experience.
If sessions fill up, you can still add your name to the list. If a spot opens up, we’ll let you know. We also send out a fortnightly email with updates about upcoming workshops.
If you have any questions about accessing the workshops, feel free to get in touch.
